Vehicle Registration

Rapid Renewal – Online Renewals Click here (Re-Registering Only – New Registrations must be done at the Town Office).  Please note that when you click on this link you can also sign up for Registration Reminders and do an online Driver’s License Renewal/Replacement.  You can even do a Vanity Plate Search!! Just look at the upper right hand side of the page and you will see the links to choose from!

Renewals at Town Office:
You need:

  • Proof of insurance  (you can have it faxed to the office – 207-445-3762. We also accept electronic proof of insurance (insurance cards received via your cell phone).
  • Mileage

First Time Registrations
Please Note: The only one who can register a vehicle the first time is the one whose name is on the bill of sale and title application.

If you want to transfer plates – the vehicle you take the plates from must have been sold, junked, etc.

Dealer Sale:
You need:

  • Blue Copy of Application For Title
  • Documentation of paid Sales Tax
  • Proof Of Insurance   (you can have it faxed to the office – 207-445-3762. We also accept electronic proof of insurance (insurance cards received via your cell phone).
  •  If the vehicle is brand-new you must bring the MARONEY Label (Window Sticker) – which is usually in your dash pocket.

Private Sale:
You need:

  • Bill of Sale
  • Title from seller transferring vehicle to you – no cross-outs or erasures!
  • Proof of Insurance (you can have it faxed to the office – 207-445-3762. We also accept electronic proof of insurance (insurance cards received via your cell phone).
  • You will need to make out a Sales Tax Form at The Town Office. (Sales tax is now 5.5%)
  • You will need to make out an Application For Title at The Town Office.
    (Title fee is $33.00 unless you want a “rush” then it will be $43.00.)

If you have a special circumstance, please call the office before coming in to see if there will be additional paperwork needed.

PLEASE NOTE: A Picture ID or phone number is requested for all checks, credit card & debit card transactions. Also, please be advised that our system is set up to automatically debit a 2.5% “portal fee” charge with a minimum charge of $1.00 for all charge/debit transactions.
